Fierce and ready to take this world by storm
I recently read a quick article on PR Say, the Public Relation’s Society of America (PRSA)’s blog. The article was about ethics in our jobs, and really it applied to any business. You can read the full article here if you want, but the writer tells of a time when he received payment upfront but before the work was even started, the company who hired him went through a restructure. The money was technically non-refundable, but the person was not comfortable taking money for a job he did not do. He used the deposit to promote the new, restructured company, even though they had decided to go in a different direction.
If you are new to Rollie, I have a history of working with larger organizations, specifically non-profits and institutions of education. I have always had a tremendous interest in people – people tell the story if life, people drive organizations, people create our community and color our world. At the beginning of this pandemic, I had a number of small businesses reach out to me for help. My love of people and my expertise in working with a small budget combined, and suddenly I had small business clients, a demographic I never saw myself working with.
They are driven individuals, who are scared by the uncertainty, determined to be successful and willing to dig in. I am so impressed by their spirit. So impressed by their desire to learn. We have had some challenging conversations about budget, reality, where they can take some PR suggestions and move forward and where I am a necessity. It has been a welcome partnership.
A few weeks ago, I shared about Nyela Basney, one of my small business clients. I hope to make this a regular feature, because these business owners remind me daily that we are human, and ethics in our business is important in how we do business with each other. I am beyond blessed to say that I am booked until the end of 2020, but stay tuned for my small business owners. It is important for me to share who they are. They are fierce and ready to take this world by storm.
